I battled issues with weight as teenager, yet still managed to compete in Sports such as Swimming and Basketball at State Level. It wasn’t until the end of High School that I set myself the goal of changing my lifestyle of bad eating habits and my ‘then’ concept of working out and fitness training. I spent the summer immediately following High School graduation, researching, learning and practicing everything I could on how to “lose weight fast” and “gain lean muscle”. Like most, which fail to realise, there is no easy solution or magic pill to lose weight or achieve your Fitness goals. In fact, I only found one answer – Hard Work and eating clean – A health and fitness prescription that I practice each and every day.
Over the period of completing my bachelor of business in Hospitality & Corporate Management, I continued my self-study of health and fitness, experimenting with workout programs and nutritional plans, which began to mould my current Health & Fitness beliefs & mantras. In 2009, whilst completing my Personal Training Qualifications I came across a Training Method known as CrossFit.
At the time I was training with my best mate out of his garage gym dubbed “The Man Gym”. At first we couldn’t fathom the idea that by completing 5 – 15min workouts once a day could turn us into the people we saw on Crossfit.com, so we used CrossFit workouts as ‘Finishers’ after our hour+ long strength workouts – BAD IDEA.
I quickly realised that in order to reap the rewards of what the CrossFit methodology offers, I would need to commit to the program whole heartedly.
So I drank the ‘Kool-aid’ and committed to training solely in CrossFit and it has since defined me as a Trainer and an Athlete. It formulates a belief in performing Functional Exercise routines at high intensity (relative to the individual) across a variety of time and modal domains. It is the single fitness method that can cater to the needs of Grandparents and the needs of Elite athletes simply by varying the intensity and degree of difficulty of the movements involved in each workout.
This method teamed with a clean eating plan has allowed me to find the healthiest version of me thus far, something I wish to help others achieve
